Inspired by the above divine message, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta Muslim Alumni (MAPAMA) was birthed in 2001 as a child of circumstance by the like minds among the Muslim graduates of the prestigious Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta, (MAPOLY), formerly Ogun State Polytechnic Abeokuta (OGUNPOLY).
It is to serve as a rally point for formidable and united front that would birth and foster socio-religious harmony and acquaintances among members.
It all started at Ya-Salam Central Mosque Onikolobo Abeokuta, precisely on
April 21, 2001 after which Four Directorates viz; “Social and Welfare Directorate, chaired by
Hj. Mushafau Alaran, “Communication Directorate, chaired by
Hj. Misbaudeen AbdurRasaq“, Finance and Project & Programme Directorates chaired by
Hj. Tajudeen Awwal and
Hj. AbdurRahman Ajala respectively were inaugurated.
Hj. AbdurRahman Ajala was also double as the protem Coordinator of the Association.
Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta Muslim Alumni (MAPAMA) aim to create and foster the spirit of Islamic brotherhood among Muslim Alumni of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic Abeokuta and within the general Muslim Ummah.
To achieve this aim, MAPAMA developed the following objectives:
- To establish and sustain a system that shall cater for the spiritual, social and economic welfare of members.
- To evolve a system that shall enhance economic development of members.
- To assist members in their career and professions.
- To facilitate the development of Dawah at Alma mater
- To facilitate the integration of Muslims graduates of Alma mater into MAPAMA.
- To enhance mutual relationship and cooperation with other Muslim organizations.
- To contribute to the Muslim Ummah.
As time passed by, the Association grew from Committee management level (Directorates) to substantive executive managements; comprising of National, Chapters and Zones. As it stands today, MAPAMA also operates in the Diasporas.
MAPAMA transformation to reckoning and as one of the most famous Muslim Alumni i the country is neither a joke nor a child’s play as she had organized more than 10 conferences. Delegates’ meetings, Seminars and Workshops for members and non-members alike. In all these programs, notable Academicians, Technocrats, Politicians and Clergymen had all been our resource persons at one time or the other.
To achieve the above listed set objectives, the following organs were established;
- MAPAMA Education Foundation (MAPEF) Board: This is a charitable organization for indigent MAPOLY MSSN Students and Scholarship awards for outstanding Muslim Students
- MAPAMA Welfare Scheme (MAWES) Board: This is another charitable and compassionate organ for needy members; and members in need of socio-economic and or psychological assistance.
- MAPAMA is currently undertaking the construction of 120 capacity modern Ablution/Convenience centers at the MAPOLY mosque for the benefit of the mosque users.
To create the legal owners of the Alumni, the Association appointed her Board of Trustee (BOT) with our highly revered father and former rector of the polytechnic. Hj. Waheed Kadiri as the chairman, while one of our revered alumnus
Hj. AbdulFatai Onasanya serves as the Executive Secretary. Other three members viz:
Hj. AbdusSemiu Akinyemi, ACA, Imam AbdulLateef Oderinde and
Barrister Zakariyau Kunle Sanni are proud alumni.
MAPAMA Hierarchical organogram after the Board of Trustee which doubles as Council of Elders is as follows:
- National Executive Council (NEC): With the President as the head is the body that oversees the overall affairs of the Association across board at Zonal, States, National and in Diasporas.
- State Executive Council (SEC): With the Coordinator as the head is the body that oversees the affairs of the Association at the state level.
- Zonal Executive Council (ZEC): With the Chairman as the head is the body that oversees the affairs of the Association at the zonal level.
